Step 3 | Application for Bank Financing

Applying for bank loans and lines of credit to support you through your education is an option that involves a fair bit more self reliance to learn about. In these steps we will try to outline some of the general ways that you can go about applying for the financing you need. It's important to note that we have no affiliation, endorsement or preferences when it comes to the type of financing you get or where you get it from. We just want to help.  For exact information and guidelines regarding bank financing you should always go to the source, and speak with someone about your specific situation.

It is important to note that if you can, you should consider both Alberta Student Aid and bank options. Make sure to compare the terms, payment schedule, how long you'll be paying, interest rates and what type of loan it is. Government loans attained through Alberta Student Aid have terms and allowances that benefit the student in ways that a bank institution simply can't. Allowable changes to payments, repayment programs and help with ongoing services are benefits that we don't usually see with bank loans.

To review and look at some examples of how what student lines of credit can look like, the links below are provided for your reference. This list doesn't include all banking institutions. And again, we recommend making an appointment with your preferred bank establishment to discuss your needs.

Once you have made your appointment with the bank, gathered all of your personal information, and attended the bank to apply for your financing, you can move onto the next step in your process.
